Five of Our Favourite Places at Tuningi

27 September 2022

Accommodating just 16 guests at any time, Tuningi Safari Lodge is an exclusive, family-friendly destination in South Africa’s Big 5 Madikwe Game Reserve. With 4 luxury suites, 2 family suites, an underground hide, a gym and so much more, there is little to be left wanting during your stay.

Take a look at some of our favourite places to relax on safari at Tuningi.

The Pool

The most enviable spot on hot afternoons. The rim flow pool and comfy loungers give the lodge a sumptuous and welcoming feel. Order a drink or a snack and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife wandering past the waterhole.

The Bar

What’s a classic safari without a few sundowners? And the best place to grab a G&T made just the way you like it, is at the bar at Tuningi.

The Boma

The bar is linked by a sweeping wooden deck and walkway that leads to a boma under an ancient sprawling Fig Tree, from which Tuningi derives its name. The boma deck is perfect for outdoor dinners around a blazing log fire, where you can see and hear the wildlife just a few feet away.

Outdoor Showers

A unique feature in each of our suites are the outdoor showers. The spacious bathrooms are a real treat; not only is there a fireplace to be enjoyed in the winter months, but an oversized bath with fabulous views and a private alfresco rock shower to be enjoyed on warmer days.

The Hide

Keen photographers will love the underground hide which overlooks the active waterhole. The hide experience is fantastic – especially when elephants walk right past the windows, offering a unique perspective of their size. Amazing images can be captured with a wide-angle lens, and even some creative low angle photos of animals such as giraffe, zebra, buffalo, kudu and impala drinking from the waterhole.
